We live, we bet

The risk and the reward

This may sound obvious, because it is. Every decision you make is a bet on the future. Life is uncertain, and we usually fail to predict what’s coming.

Venture is one of the most unpredictable arenas there is. Whether you’re deciding what to build or where to invest, you’re placing a bet. You bet the problem is real and that your solution will actually satisfy people. There are far more ways to fail than to succeed. Losing the bet costs you time, effort, nerves, money, and finally reputation. Winning is glorious and brings fortune. Often the risk is worth it.

But here’s the part that’s easy to forget: a good bet and a good outcome are not the same thing. You can make the right call with the information you had and still lose because only God knows what is going next.

Oscar Piastri put it perfectly after McLaren’s intermediate-tyre gamble backfired at the 2026 Canadian GP:

“If it had rained a little bit more, we would have looked like heroes. But it didn’t, so we looked like idiots.”

It was wet, the track was greasy, the crossover favored inters. Then the rain stopped during the formation lap and the bet was dead.

Judge yourself on the quality of your bets, not just the results. The world will judge you on the results anyway. Care only about what is under your control, leave the rest for Allah, make tawakkul and ask for the best (not what you consider best but what actually is).

And always have a good intention in everything.
